Former Indiana Running Back Jaylin Lucas Out for Season at Florida State

Lucas Suffered A Season-Ending Knee Injury In Practice

Redshirt sophomore running back Jaylin Lucas will miss the 2023 season due to a knee injury, Florida State announced Tuesday.

Lucas, a transfer from Indiana, suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice on Monday.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pound running back was expected to compete for playing time in Florida State’s backfield this season.

Lucas Rushed for Over 1,000 Yards in 2021

Lucas rushed for 1,097 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021 as a redshirt freshman at Indiana.

He also had 20 receptions for 178 yards and two touchdowns.

Lucas was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2021.

Lucas Transferred to Florida State in 2022

Lucas transferred to Florida State in January 2022 after rushing for 544 yards and three touchdowns in six games as a sophomore at Indiana.

He was expected to be a key part of Florida State’s offense in 2023.

However, Lucas’ injury is a major blow to the Seminoles’ running back depth.

Other Running Backs on Florida State’s Roster

Florida State still has several other running backs on its roster, including Treshaun Ward, Lawrance Toafili, and CJ Donaldson.

Ward rushed for 636 yards and six touchdowns in 2022, while Toafili rushed for 422 yards and four touchdowns.

Donaldson transferred to Florida State from West Virginia in January 2023.

Conclusion

The loss of Lucas is a major blow to Florida State’s running back depth.

However, the Seminoles still have several other talented running backs on their roster.

Florida State is scheduled to open the 2023 season on Aug. 26 against LSU in the Allstate Louisiana Kickoff in New Orleans.
