Australia's Navy to Double Surface Fleet with Armed, Optionally Crewed Vessels

Major Reshaping Includes $11 Billion Investment

Six New Warships to Enhance Defense Capabilities

The Australian government has unveiled plans to significantly reshape its naval fleet, adding six large and optionally crewed vessels armed with missiles. This major overhaul, worth approximately $11 billion, aims to double the country's surface fleet and enhance its defense capabilities.

The new vessels will be capable of remote operation, providing greater flexibility and resilience in various scenarios. These warships will significantly increase the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN) strike ability and enable it to respond more effectively to emerging threats in the region.

Vice-Admiral David Johnston will lead Australia's armed forces as the chief of the defense force, pending the governor-general's approval. This major investment in the navy reflects Australia's commitment to maintaining a strong and capable defense force to protect its interests and contribute to regional security.
